As parents, it's hard to see our babies in pain. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happens when their teeth begin to come in. Luckily though, there are several things that can be done to ease the pain from these incoming teeth, and make the experience more bearable for both your baby and you.
First off, the best thing you can do is to just be a loving parent and comfort your baby when he or she has painful gums. This goes without saying, but just holding your baby and talking in a soothing voice can do a lot to make them feel better, whether you feel as if it's helping or not.
As far as reducing the pain, there are many techniques that can help, here are a few of them:
Cold foods - yogurt is a good choice, or a fruit puree. At this age babies obviously can't eat everything yet, so make sure to do your research and find out what cold foods to give your child.
A wet washcloth - wet a cloth with cold water and wring it out. Babies like to chew when they're teething, and the rough texture also helps to ease the pain. Needless to say, make sure this is a clean washcloth.
Massage - massaging your babies gums and jaw area helps to ease the pain. Just make sure your hands are clean of course, and you can rub your babies gums where the teeth are starting to come through. The especially painful areas will probably feel warmer. Massaging the jaw and neck area also helps. Make a mixture with aloe vera gel and a few drops of chamomile and rub gently.
These are just a few things that you can do to help ease the pain of teething and comfort your baby during this strenuous experience. Always consult with your baby's doctor for the best advice.
